Jobs in welding

Hi folks

I have become interested in the idea of welding/metal work and wood working, and was wondering what the job market is like, is it saturated or how is it?

How do you train / get work, are there college courses that are standard. I guess you would look for an apprenticeship, i am 30 so not exactly a youn'in anymore. Do you think i am wasting my time?

A big learning curve i imagine and lots of safety courses as well.

I'd have a trawl round your local colleges for starters, specifically ask what qualifications they train to and whether they are officially recognised.
