Job interview feed back

Hey all looking for some advice.

Just went for an interview Monday last week with a company it went to ahead very quickly. The post wasn’t advertised at all I’d just casually asked a mate what if the company was hiring on the Friday before. He said not officially but they were understaffed and always looking for people. He ran it by the boss said they may be interested and to pop past later, did so, left a message was phoned back within an hour and asked to come in Monday for an interview.

Did so seemed to go well, got on with the workshop manager well enough. Forgot to give him my email as I was going away but he had my phone number. He said he try let me know by Thursday before I went away. Haven’t heard anything back since. I did drop the boss of the company and who the workshop manager was going to chat too about the possibility (the only person I have an email for) an email polite brief just asking if they had managed to reach a verdict and there was my email as it be easier to get a hold of me that way. Still not heard much back but wondering what the next steps you guys think I should take?

To complicate matters the agency on Monday have started enquiring about my future availability and at the interview I had stated my availability window. That I was engaged for the next three weeks from Thursday but nothing after that so far. I think I’m happy to hold off for another week but after that I’m going to assume I’m free to take the agency work on. I have said that the agency was wanting to know about my availability and that I’d like to hear their answer before I made further commitments in the email. Do you guys think this is a fair assumption?

As I did say im away without phone signal for three weeks should I wait until I have been home a few days?

They have not asked at all for certification, education history, CV or even references as yet.

You’re free to take on agency work right now. If they call you back to ask you to come work you tell them I have agency work booked and I can start right after.

Give it a bit more time if you like but you could call the main reception, give your name and phone number and ask if (whoever interviewed you) could call you back. So they definitely have your number and it’s not lost on the back of a post it. Assume you haven’t got the job unless and until they phone you. Life’s too short to worry or wait in my opinion.

To put it bluntly... I would assume they weren't keen enough to follow up. Chalk it up to experience and keep moving on. Definitely take the agency work. Better to be unavailable because you're working, than to be unavailable because you *might* be working.
In the event they do want you, they'll wait a week or two if they have to. That's what happens with good hires... They generally aren't available at the drop of a hat, and they definitely aren't chasing jobs with the desperation of a 17 yearold trying to get a date.

Good advice above. Wait till you get back after you next trip, ask the guy who interviewed you for interview feed back.

Dont hassle him, he will be a busy man. Interview feed back is very useful, but just keep moving forward, keep working, keep looking, the right thing will come along.

If you've not sorted you class 1 yet, make it happen, might not be what you want now, but they do open doors later!

I had my one and only job interview ever, I was told I would have an answer in two weeks time (!) then was emailed after two weeks that decision would definitely by the following Wednesday. heard nothing, wasn’t fussed either way anyway. Finally got rung up an offered the job almost a week later again. I told them I didn’t know if I wanted the job it‘d been so long since the interview I’d forgotten what the job was about, they weren’t impressed. Took the job anyway!

I got a job offer from TFL months after the interview and months after my initial application, the lady rung me at work one morning but when I asked where will I be working she couldn't tell me!
They didnt know what part of Greater London the job was in!
I turned her down and she went very quite, she couldn't believe someone would turn down a job with them
As well managed as the rest of their business
As for agency work @Robbie260 just take it for now and if that job comes through take that, dont forget an agency will drop you like a hot stone if it suits them so dont worry about messing them around a bit.

I did it for years, exc money and quite happy to have a few weeks off between jobs......
even got offered a 2 year contract in Brazil.....
be confident.....they can SMELL fear....

I would agree with take the agency work, wifey took it between redundancies, (credit control) it works both ways. If you're any good the chances of the firm realising and creating a permanent post for you are good, but it also allows you to vet companies so you know the ones you don't want to work for.

I’ve got a friend who works in that sort of industry, after getting the job it took a whole year of background and security clearance before he could actually start working

Was a bus mechanics position was looking to get some commercial vehicles experience for my own business unfortunately there are no real options for a cross over training course unless your a company with a large fleet of your own vehicles. So getting some experience with the local bus company would have been handy.

Also just some personal circumstances have changed at home and I kinda need to be home more making going away to sea not practical. My own engineering business is picking up well now but not at a stage it could support me just yet.

Unfortunately with the Scottish Fisheries Patrol there is no chance of a permanent post as they don’t give their agency staff any preferential treatment even when it comes to interviews. They also require a chiefs ticket for a seconds post but unfortunately with the financial mess my ex left me in (my own fault though in all honesty) the agency work is to sporadic to fund it at the moment and the thirds job is so boring on the occasions I have done it I nearly have gone round the bend.

The agency as well even though I have asked countless times to go to offshore work or ferries but they won’t move me on from the SFP as they like me and keep asking for me back. It’s not a job I’d apply for council politics at sea not that fun or challenging. Annoying though I can sail as second through the agency but can’t be second with them officially.

It’s essentially like working for the council at sea.

Most other agencies are deep sea work which is even less practical for me currently than what im already doing.

If the SFP keep asking you back, keep going till you sort your financials out. Keep paying the bills. Difficult to not go to sea if your a seafarer, swapping industries inst easy, but possible. Dont give up!

Not giving up just looking for a way to geanerate a proper steady pay check. The agency work is fine but as said it’s too sporadic to be making real progress in the direction I want to go. Also something that really lets me start building my own business up instead of interrupting it constantly, and actually get the money behind me to get my cheifs ticket.
