Jawel paint fisheyes help??

Hi Guys
Took yesterday off work to start spraying my bug. Went on really well and then boom. Over the next few minutes, fisheyes everywhere I mean hundreds and hundreds. Both doors, bonnet and boot lid ruined.

I'm totally gutted but now on with solving the problem. I understand the contamination thing silicones etc. I've done further test bits, changing panel wipes, slow, fast tried IPA. Swapped air lines around and checked cleaned filters. It's a new spray gun but also tried my old primer gun as well but still the same. I sprayed the garden wheel barrow thinking the contamination might be in the workshop air but still fisheyes.

Then I made up a small amount and brushed it on a clean piece of metal and it still went mental. Is it really possible the supplied paint could have something in it??

Any help much appreciated.

Was your test bit of metal stored where you keep the car? Could your whole garage be contaminated?

is starting to sound like duff paint , did you use the existing compressor and airline etc to prime it ?

I have had that with the Kitten respray. The Jawel paint fisheyed, yet paint from a local supplier went on beautifully. Never did get to the bottom of it.

Thanks for replies guys. The test metal was in the garage but was wrapped up but I also got a wheel barrow from other end of the garden and sprayed that, witn same result.
Only new thing was a brand new devilbiss gun which I'm sure couldn't be the problem as I also brushed straight from the tin.
I did notice if the paint in the tin is sat for awhile then there is a very slight oil residue on the surface. This goes when mixed and I'm presuming this is just part of the 2k paint??
I've just ordered another litre from another supplier and a devilbliss whirlwind thing to go on just before the gun, although I do already have 2 filters inline they say this is the best for stopping oils.
In a way I'm hoping the paint is at fault and not some contamination issue. Otherwise I'll be forever terrified of painting

It could be silicon contamination, plays bugger when we have to repaint metal work after fitting back plates for beam detectors.

The same thing happened to with the same paint source and I was using florite never figured it out,
The only thing I did different after was clean my spray gun exceptionally clean and made sure that all the cellulose gunwash thinners were dried and removed.

Take it back to where you bought it and let them check it out.

Could it be your gun wash/thinners ?

Happened to me before..... Using cheap gun wash and then not using good quality thinner for the final gun clean.

Interesting. I always flush with cheap gunwash. Will give that a try as it makes sense anyway, regardless of silicon attack.

Maybe you got the good quality gunwash?

In my case (and im no expert btw), I knew the gunwash I was using was the culprit as I've never had fish eyes before.. I have always cleaned my guns with the 2k thinner.

Wasn't advertised as 'Gunwash' just 'Thinners' but was recommended by local motor factors as Gunwash...At a cost of £23 for 25 litres of it... Looks like apple juice compared to crystal clear 2k thinner.

I will still continue to use it though as its cheap to clean the guns and I find it does clean them well, I just make sure now to do a final gun clean with the quality clear stuff... Even blow some 2k thinner through the gun to blast it out.

Not had a problems since then.

Hi Guys
It would seem that a change to a lechler 2k thinners might have done the trick. The can that came with the paint was very very cheap and on the back said standard cellulose thinners.
Not sure how this would make much difference but it has. I'll keep you posted on further results.

some cheapo celly thinners are made from recycled components and solvents

That's pretty poor by jawel. Cellulose thinners is not really for use with 2k and while you may get away with it in primer its certainly not for topcoat use.

Was the thinners they supplied a bit yellow in colour? If it was that's a sign of cheap rubbish.

If you were using 2k why use celly thinners in the first place
