I'm elbow deep in the resto of my old XJ6 always had a thing for this particular model of XJ since my dad had an XJ in the early 2000s, an odd choice of car for a 24yr old bloke, or so i'm told..

I bought her in December last year.

She isn't a rot box which is a nice however she isn't perfect, the usual 30yr old Jaguar issues being rust in odd places, no holes yet though..

Not an odd choice to me. I had a 4.2 XJ6 SWB series 1 @20, and a XJ12 SWB @21. This was 1980. They were very rusty at only 8 years old. It took all my weeks wages to run them.

Series 3s are lovely cars. I wanted one from about age 14 onwards but settled for a Capri. Did you rack up decent miles in it and how much trouble was it?

It was my daily for my first job after uni, needed regular TLC (oils, greases, lubricants, checking etc), apart from that it was stupid thirsty, good day round town cruising around with 19mpg was celebrated, and they rusted like buggery

welcome....
seeing the lump in the backround ull need to brush up on ur electrical skills....

when I lived in Calif I made up a kit of parts to convert the V12 XJS's to the proper old 350 Chevy engine and box.....
Eng and gearboxes were crate fresh....plus I got 5 core rads made up....I also got Euro headlights imported, as they were quite a fashion statement then.....lol...
always had a q of cars waitring...
after the conversion they became a nice reliable car, well under the bonnet, plus u could get it fixed anywhere...
there were so many old V12 engines n gearboxes in storage, literally pilled on top of one another.....in the end scrapped the lot....
what a load of garbage....

Welcome. Excellent taste, I’ve had numerous old Jags and I tend to agree the AJ6 is a great engine, although it is somewhat improved by the addition of a supercharger

I’m not quite sure what it is about old British engines and superchargers……probably something to do with Spitfires

I never got as far as the Daimler Super V8 which is still on my list, but I did have the last of the XJ12s. I also managed to find a 1995 XJR-6 with a manual box. That was a hoot.
