This is my first ever attempt at a car restoration which I intend doing with my newly acquired Clarke 151-TE, a few hand tools, an Aldi cut-off tool (£6), a 100mm Makita grinder and an axe - just in case. My intentions are to fabricate what I can, not go bankrupt, and to hopefully end up with a tidy usable car.
The car has had only 2 owners (the original dealership being the 1st owner) and has been garaged since 1984 after it failed it's last mot on the indicator surround corrosion. After a 24 year sleep, a fresh battery was connected and it (she?) started up first time last year which is good news.
The first part I'm working on is the front offside subfame.
I cut back the cruddy metal and made up the end section using 2mm sheet steel. Total cost so far, 2 quid.
Oh, and about a fiver for some paint, 8 quid for a gallon of cheapo thinners, 3 hours labour, some petrol to get the steel, lots of swearing, plenty of coughing up dusty crap, a cpl of bashed knuckles, still..... all good fun.
As it's only the subframe, I went for function rather than aesthetics.
