Iv been asked what they are worth and which is the better of each to keep??

Hi guys..been working at my new place of employment today and been asked to bascally sort store room out of old stuff stuff that's not going to be used and sellable stuff..

Whilst doing this I came accross 5 welders..3 mig and 2 stick.

The 2 stick are both 240v..One is oil filled and really bloody heavy and the other is a "normal one"


The mig the red murex is 240v and welds really nice


The tritig is 3 phase and also really nice to weld however the casing has had some hammer I had to take sides of for wheels to work as the gas bottle stand has collapsed.

There's also another 32 amp blue socket welder but they don't have 32 socket so I couldn't test this one..


So if you were to keep 1 mig and 1 stick which one would you choose and what would you value others at?

I believe that the Murex is a well respected older model.

The oil cooled unit is almost certainly nicer to use than the buzzbox.

Those would be my choice.

Value wise I have no idea sorry.

Well, the Oxford "only" goes to 110 amps but will weld all day at that, whereas the buzzbox would go to 190, but not for long (I wouldnt have thought, maybe its actually really good??) . Depends on what you want to weld and how much welding you are doing - I'd keep the oxford every day of the week but I like them anyway so I'm biased!

As Eschen says above the Murex would be my choice of Migs to keep - well respected brand and should be easier to get parts for if needed.

Oxfords are worth about a pound an amp +/- 20% on the day if it's tidy/untidy.

Used MIGs professional £0.75-£1.50 an amp, depending on make, condition etc.

Used hobby MIGs £0.40-£1.00 an amp, again based on condition and make.

That's a fair scope but gives an idea. If I'm buying I'm trying to get as close to or under the low figure.

Cheers guys I was leaning toward the Oxford to keep and was thinking the 3 phase with a bit of work to the casing..

What they will be welding..not a clue he just wants to keep 1 of each and sell the rest

price wise it depends on if your selling or buying if anyone ever asks me tool prices I ask 1st .-otherwise tell em the proper price and they say do u want to buy it you have dug your own hole on the price if I was buying is offer them 70- quid for the oilcooled as long as working order 90 topps if I-realy wanted it
