Windows 11 genuinely is terrible, we have to use it at work due to diagnostic programs and it's bloody awful compared to Windows 10..

A real step back imho (I have been using it for a good couple of years now and it doesn't age well).

They are going all in to ban and disable Local Accounts too..

I've found that my biggest problems with this migration to W11 has been that they forced me not to use a local account at the same time. Connecting to drives etc takes ages now whereas I used to save on the machine and then back up to a network drive periodically. I am not often on site at work which doesnt help as it all works faster when you are on the work network.

I still have a local admin account as need it for some programs I use so I may switch to just using that but recognise the security concerns so have resisted so far.

W11 itself hasnt been awful - I have made it look like 10 so appearance wise not a lot has changed.

I shall be going to linux before long. A word of caution though, My son & i recently tried installing it on this computer as a dual boot system, It beat us.
Nick is 29 & highly competent in IT which he uses at work extensively including coding. The linux instal failed with literally hundreds of dire error & conflict messages coming up. Whatever we did didnt work. We were forced to retreat & give up.
Now im fairly competent but installing linux is not as easy as its made out to be, if i had tried i would have been flummoxed before Nick was. I shall have to get another machine & do a clean new instal.

I just gave up with dual boot with Windows on a couple of machines and wiped them in favour of Linux Mint. I did have a problem with the hard drive file format but fixed that by changing it in the bios, then all was fine. I cant remember the details but a bit of googling told me what to do. The latest version of Mint looks pretty much like Windows 7 and is pretty user friendly really.

Had Win11 on home and work laptops for a while

As usual when new versions of Windows are released, it takes a little while to get used to the new/changed user interface

Yes I dont like the fact that the UI is dumbed down and stuff is in different places, but, I usually find once I'm used to the changes I dont want to go back to the older versions

I've now got Win11 on two computers, and other than the start button/task bar buttons being in the middle, and the menu structure being a bit different, I've not got any problems with it.

I'll be updating my main desktop at some point when I can be bothered to buy a new SSD, as I'm needing to increase storage space on it, so may as well do a clean install at the same time. And possibly upgrade the processor, and fit the water cooler I've had sitting for a few months...

I agree with both above.

I rebuilt my PC earlier this year but hung on to using Win 10 pro, I could have upgraded to Win 11 after the PC upgrade but in no rush.

Like most versions of Windows, underneath very similar, sure things may look a little different, things get moved around, ( MS have to give consumers something for their money, qualifi changes ), have to dig a bit but Win 11 is very similar and behaves the same way.

Last week I finally jumped to 11and pretty much use to it.

I didn't do a clean install opting to save my data/files and settings.

45 minutes later, all done and dusted, I was pleasantly surprised, one very old program I expected to lose, still working, I lost all my printer/scanner settings, went to the website, downloaded new drivers, printer/scanner, up and running again in a few minutes and Win 11 no longer supported its old " Paint "program, which I like, downloaded and installed that separately and running just fine.

So yeah, for me it was relatively seamless Windows upgrade.

For those that can't upgrade or have no wish to try a Linux distro', just as capable although printer and scanner drivers might still be problematic depending on Linux version.

Win 11 is not a good OS,us it all day at work and its one of the most buggy and unstable software distributions i have had to put up with.
1 Explorer crashes constantly, like 3 or 4 time a day as it doesn't' like working with our CAD PDM.
2 after one of its daily crashes it resets my desktop and moves all my icons.
3 it loses connection with the dell docking station and needs to be restarted.
4 Its uses so much system resources that even with 64GB of ram,get out of memory warnings in CAD & Ansys

Win 7 was the most stable, 10 was OK.
11 is win 8 all over again

This is exactly the kind of story that made me "give in" to W11. I have no interest and zero aptitude when it comes to IT and I really don't want to waste time trying to deal with stuff I don't have a good unstanding of (I waste my time "messing" with my two cars ). I bought a new (used) PC with W11 (fairly cheaply), but I'm going to keep my old W10 going too (at least for a while). Years ago, I worked for one of the very few companies that went with Lotus Smartsuite rather than MS Office, and I have thousands of files in Lotus Freelance (equivalent of Powerpoint) which I still use almost daily for drawing anything I'm working on, and I'm delighted that it loaded and works on W11, even though the last version of Freelance dates back to 2000. On W10, I'm still using Picasa for photos and I have yet to try run that on W11.

I very much believe the old adage that the "best computer programs are the ones you already know well". Unfortunately, that can be hard to apply when it comes to MS OS.
