Its time for an upgrade - MIG

Hello Welders,

I've struggled with a SIP100 mig-mate for quite a while, it can occasionally do some decent welds, but it spent more time in bits with me swearing at it than welding. (i've done all the simple mods)

I don't have plans for anything heavy, mild steel and occasional stainless, just generally fixing/making stuff.
I have a large gas bottle with regulator already.
I've no plans/intention to use gasless.

i have a mate with a clarke 130 which he's very happy with.

I was thinking of the Clarke 135TE, but what other models for a similar price are worth looking at.

Also anyone recommend a supplier, Machine Mart have them for £264.

finally, can anyone tell me if the torch supplied with it is any good, and whats a Euro-torch?

P.S my old one is going, it needs a bit of TLC (the current problem is the wire decides to come out the side, i think the inside of the feed tube needs lubing, but i'm not interested in fixing it anymore).....its in guildford. might suite a capable fixer who wants to learn welding. Offers welcome.

Weldequip has the 130EN for about the same price.

The torch is fine, the length was my only complaint (2m). It is hardwired in.

Eurotorch is a standard socket the torch can easily plug in to. Makes serviceing the torch or using different torches easier.

Comes set up for gasless, but if you already have the regs and bottle there'll be no extra cost for those.

Goes down to 30A for bodywork, panels etc, and up to 150A for the occasional heavier jobs.

None of the hobby Clarkes comes with a eurotorch. As Scott says, a eurotorch makes it easier to service the torch, and they come in several torch sizes and cable lengths for use in different conditions, which is handy for daily workshop use, but a bit expensive for the home hobby welder.

If you really want a eurotorch, go for a welder which comes with one as standard. Fitting one to a hobby Clarke is an expensive aftermarket exercise.
