Confession time - I’m 47, have been working in the engineering sector all my life including running some big welding jobs (projects specifically about welding pipe work in nuclear reactors). I was even a certified CSWIP inspector for a while. Oh, and my dad used to be a blacksmith / fabricator.
I’ve never picked up a welding set myself until this morning!! Borrowed an old 150A set from my father in law (prob about as old as I am!) and had a crack. Ran a few beads then first go at a butt weld below. Penetration was crap but I wasn’t too disappointed. Much more practice required but I’m chuffed to bit to have actually learnt the basics.
Anyway, point of the post was a thank you to all the knowledgeable folk on this forum. I’ve been lurking for a while and have learnt loads of helpful stuff.
