Looks a lot like an XK Jaguar gearbox so may be later, or they used a very old design, or I am wrong, again.

Not sure, the place he worked was called Moss Gear in Birmingham so you could be on the money there.

moss gearbox was used up to the first of the Mk2, not sure how far back they went, that box looks Mk2 Jag from the front but the lack of a tail housing makes it earlier of just from a different application, wrong wheels just to move it around, 40 years off the road, going fat bumpers, wires, 3.4 engine, red, LSD, recreating my third car, a Mk2 was a lot of fun at 18.....
