Italian Electrics ?

I dug out my Italian made CEA Rainbow inverter which is faulty and needs repair but found I had long ago left the mains cable connections off inside, im just double checking , I presume N is Neutral and R is live but what does R stand for ?

Old three phase colours. So that would be L1 so live.

Technically you could wire the live to the neutral and it would still work fine.

That looks single phase to me! (I could be wrong?)

Look at the incoming cable with an earth wire coming thru cable gland in photo.

Brown to L1

It says 230v on the pcb and I think all the rainbows were single phase only

The thing is packed solid with every electronic component known to man, I'm not switching it on until I'm 100 % sure.

L1 is live and L2 is return (neutral)

Looks almost (from the terminal markings) as if the pcb could be a base board for either a 1ph (L1 + N) machine or a 2ph (L1 +L2) machine (a lot of machines sold as "dual" either 1ph or 3ph machines were really only 1ph or 2ph (as in only 2 phases of a 3 phase supply were actually used by the welder).
So it's not certain, but it looks like it's a 1ph machine, so the applicable marks for the wires would be L1 (Live Brown) and N (Neutral Blue)?

It's defo 1 phase 230 v.

It had a 13 a UK plug on it when I got it.

I need to try the HF TIG on it now I've got set up for it, I know last time I tested it the stick was cutting in and out one second on one second off.

Needs to go for repair.

I think you need to think outside the box, you have identified the problem, as per thread title.

When I had this issue, my initial thoughts were 'spaghetti', but on further detailed analysis, it was 'linguini'.
