Be careful with 1/4 turn ceramic taps as it seems impossible to get spares for them.
I had a ceramic mixer tap in the kitchen that started to drip after less than 2 years. I tried in vain to get spares for it so in the end rather than going through the hassle of having to replace the tap I managed to bodge it with a packer cut from the side of a plastic milk carton, it's still fine 8 years later.

I have a kit of different inserts, there are about 4 common ones (that screwfix sell) but the box is handy for those odd jobs

Nah, it's nasty stuff here. No end of limescale issues.

That's strange - we're in Sheffield and our water is proper soft. No scaling of the kettle after years of usage. And I like my tea...

Jammy sod. Our gas kettle, for example, I occasionally give it a bit of a bashing to break the scale loose from inside it, as it starts making weird noises when it gets built up. Our water is well 'ard round here.

Blimey - and the water hardness is so different? In fact I work some times in Tankersley (even closer to you) and the water is soft there as well. How strange.
