I know people here have said that spray transfer only takes place above 170A, which is out of the range of my Parweld XTM161C. However, I've also seen suggestions that it is more to do with wire diameter and OCV. Yesterday I was doing some heavier welding than usual (3-4mm) but still using the large reel of 0.6mm wire I had fitted. I had the voltage at setting 4 of 6. The manual doesn't list the OCV for each setting individually but if they're evenly-spaced then setting 4 would be 24.25V.
I found the arc went almost silent - just a hum. At first, I stopped because I thought the wire was burning back but it wasn't. These are the welds it produced and to me they look a lot smoother than I am used to seeing (by my hand, anyway).
