It`s a nice machine. Thing is when they start to go silly money like £350.............another £150 gets you a Portamig 180 amp.........new with back-up.
I wouldn't go mad on it, it's an old model (circa 1980's) + it's got a reserve on it and it's a Yorkshire man's reserve! so don't expect it for nowt!

WHAT?!!!!!! its ok im a yorkshireman so i didnt want to pay much for it!!!!! didnt realise it was as old as that seen a few murex on ebay and they always seem to go for silly money what u reckon its worth then weldy? whats best that or portamig?
It'll probably be worth less than the reserve! A quality machine but £250 tops - it's 20 years old! & a replacement circuit board (if still available) will be £100+

yeah youve talked me out of it now but in hindsight i wished i hadnt bought my sip which im sure was overpriced, and put the money towards something decent even if it meant shelling out a bit more in the first place thats yorkshiremen for you!!! you dont ever get any quality pre-owned machines in do you weldy? would you reccomend portamig as opposed to murex?
Still worth keeping your eye on it, you never know! As with all things, you get what you pay for; Murex are a nice quality machine yes, but the Portamig out perform any & all machines in their price range. Now I would say that wouldn't I! Seriously though, equivalent models are a good 30-40% more expensive with a lesser spec!

Let's put it this way... your Topmig 170 is like a Skoda, it does the job. You would think you were in a Bugatti Veyron with a Portamig or Murex!

yeah ive tried it i walked to the welders shop at work and picked one up that my mate uses (murex) and the difference is that of a skoda and im talking pre vw influence!!! do you come across pre owned portamigs? theres the yorkshire influence again!!! where you based at weldy?
Put your hands in those deep pockets of yours Yorky & buy new! You get full warranty & after sales support and guess what?... it actually works out cheaper than buying second hand "bargains"!
