is there any how to videos for torch angles etc

i plan to spend some time this week making my welding better

im still unsure how i should drag the torch and what angle

say if i have a 10" straight join on a table...am i best to tackle it left to right , pull towards me or push away?

could really use seeing some vids on how pro's tackle each joint

Ideally you want to push the torch. How you arrange the work on the bench is up to you but make sure you can a) see what your doing, in particular that the torch isn't in the way and that b) you're comfortable. I'm right handed and will generally weld right to left and slightly towards myself. Not sure about vids but check out Youtube. There are lots of welding related ones on there.

I try do the same as Archie. Push towards me so i can see best.

Note push/pull is related to the angle of the torch relative to the direction it is moving. Not if you are pushing/pulling with your hand. Push is work end of torch pointing in the direction it is moving.

I have a habit of letting the angle drop. Causes the weld pool to go to a keyhole shape instead of round. If your welds have an odd rdge down the middle, then the angle is probably to low (and also happens more with pulling.)

Near vertical is best for penetration and weld profile.

70 degrees is about the optimum.

Too low and you get a lot of spatter aswell.

If its a fillet of equal thicknesses, point right into it, 45 degs
