Is the output of my mig limited by a 13 amp plug?

Hi,
I've just been looking back through the manual on my mig, looking at the specs on duty cycles got me wondering?
% 35% 60% 100%
Output amps 160 120 95
Supply voltage 22v 20v 19v
Input current 26a 15.5a 11a

As my welder is only wired through a standard 3 pin 13amp plug is this limiting my output amps.

it's limiting your maximum current draw, do you use it on high enough settings to blow the fuse? shouldn't affect your welding below the amperage that the fuse blows at

In short Barry yes. I dont know enough about duty cycle. to give you a full understanding. If you want to save on the fuses.

I need to know what your welding, what thickness of wire, and what your machine is set at.

The duty cycle* won't be a problem, as Simon said it's the current draw. You may not achieve the max draw from the mains at the mid to low settings.

*ratio berween on & off times within a 10 minute period, e.g. 50% is 5 mins on and 5 mins off, 10% is 1 min on and 9 mins off, and so on.

Hi,
Ive used all of the settings and never blown a fuse? Even with the welder on its highest setting the amp display will never read above 120?
Think my welders gettin a bit tired now. Still haven't sorted out my spatter problem. Can anyone recommend a shop that could take a look at my welder, cebora jaguar 2000. When I search cebora on the net it doesn't come back with much. It don't really want to get a new welder as it has been good until the spatter trouble.

What size wire are you using? 120 sounds like about the max you can get on 0.6mm.

Do you do a lot of grinding?
The reason why i ask i was having problems with splatter (too much of it) i had the machine set up perfect. new liners, wheels cleaned, you name it i did it. Until i took the Air gun to it and cleared out all the grinding dust, It kind of sorted it out, then put a fresh reel of wire on. Then cleaned the steel with a grinder, The splatter was being cut down every time i did something. So I would say follow these steps. The other factor with splatter is the wire feed speed being slighty to high.


Out of interest what thickness of material are you welding?

the fuse wont limit the output current it will just blow when its had enough. The standard plug fuse is tolerant to a bit of overload and you won't damage the welder or the electrics if you blow the fuse. If you are regularly blowing worth upgrading to industrial plugs but that's a sparky job.

Hi,
I mainly work with cds tube 32mm 2.5mm thick using 0.8. I always clean up the steel well and have tried removing the side of the welder and giving it a good clean?

get a tin of air dust or better still an air line and get in there especially the electronics

i know im probably stating the obvious but the spatter problem could also be down the angle you hold your torch when welding and how far away from the work piece you are holding it,you probably have tried the following suggestion and if so i apologise one thing you could try is adjusting the volts and amps also possibly if you have to slots for earth lead might be worth trying that,obviously wite down any adjustments as you do it,like i say apologys if youve tried any off my suggestions.

Hello Barry,

the size and length of you supply cable can limit your output current if it's too small, (I assume the welder has the original flexible the manufacturer fitted?). However your machine is far too big to operate properly on a 13 amp socket as you are limiting it to about half it's operating capacity in terms of maximum amps.
