Is it possible to obtain an olive, in any material that will fit on a 16mm tube?

Maybe I was a little harsh saying what I did, for which I apologise. Problem is, there are always people that for want of a better word, 'pray' on older people.

There is only so much we can do for vulnerable relatives that don't live close, and they tend to want their interdependence. Better than the care home home option-they never take rediculous amounts of money from vulnerable people's bank account every month

I think this will be the jobby. The tube and 16mm olive/compression fitting will eliminate the weak point.

I try to begin with the end in mind. I have just ordered a pair of 16mm compression fittings from e bay inspired by Seadog's link. They are intended for use on plastic thick wall pipes/under ground heating etc. My only concern is are the compression fittings likely to crush the metal tubes ? We have to make a decission at some point and just go for it, otherwise we don't progress.

I also like the idea from Striker in post No11 - using epoxy, araldite extra strong. I just need someone to advise me on how big a space is needed around the joining tube to accommodate enough of the epoxy-I have never used this.

I would put a wooden dowel in the centre of both tubes on both sides, then 2 part epoxy the lot together. It's the type of thing we would do at The Repair Cafe that I volunteer at.

Typical clearance for an effective glue line is 0,05 - 0,15.

So bore would be 14,00 / 14,05 and o/d of joining tube 13,95 / 13,90.

Any tube that fits or bigger tube and cut it lenghways and make it fit, smash it in with epoxy and a couple of pop rivets. Job done.
