Is a MIG weld food safe?

Hi everyone,

I have a MIG welder with flux cored MIG wire. I want to weld a stainless steel cooking pot to a copper pipe.

Will the weld be safe if it is in contact with water?

Also, do you think the pot lid would warp a lot?

I would have thought you would need stainless steel wire which is used in food safe fabrication

You cant weld copper to stainless, it can be silver soldered, but wont be food safe, flux cored wire is for mild steel and also is not food safe

Going on from what @Paul. has mentioned & I should of read your post properly. Yeah you can't weld copper to stainless steel

Do you know what the flux cored MIG wire is made from that makes it toxic once welded?

Or get some stainless pipe. You can get a roll of flux core stainless wire for 20quid.

Intuitively, silver solder should be OK. Silver has very good anti-nasty properties. Think of how milk was always kept in silver jugs before fridges existed.
