Irwin bolt-grip sockets

No connection with this company, however would just like to let others know about them.I was doing the brakes on my Pajero last weekend and had got to the final caliper retaining bolt to find it was well rounded and nowt I had would shift it . As luck would have it a mate from work phoned at the same time and I was telling him about the bother I was having so he came round and loaned me his set, to say I was impressed is an understatement ,they have lefthand spiral flutes that as the name says grip the bolt and turn it out.so when its -2 and darkness is falling you'll be glad of these!

I have a snapon set of about 12 or 15 there fantastic.
I even removed a rusty dome headed self tapper by selectingthe best fit
One of those things that when I use it I glad I spent all that money

I got both sets a while back and use them all the time to undo stuff. They do tend to cut into the nuts, especially if they're rusty, so be prepared to replace the nut/bolt that has been removed. They also do a larger set (lugnut up to 1") and a smaller screw extractor set.
One gripe would be that they are 3/8" drive and not 1/2" so you need to drive them via a socket on their heads it you want to use an impact driver.

The last stuck caliper bolt I had was a split Allen bolt in a Corsa B, what could they do for that? I welded a M10 bolt in it and undid it with an ordinary socket. I can see the benefit of these though and if I ever get stuck can you give me your mate's number

they are excellent bits of kits.
we use them all the time at work due to bolts getting hot then cold and capheads never had one that wont come out

I've got the Snap On ones too, don't use the very often but when you need them they are worth their weight

ive got a set and they work wonderfully.

another good bolt removing tool which has never let me down is a set of nutbuster pliers. the only drawback with these is sometimes you cant get them on the bolt if its in a tight spot.

I've got the 3 small ones of these and they are excellent.I've used them to remove rounded bolts and stuck studs and rounded allen key bolts on brake calipers.definitly one to keep in the tool box.

They do larger set also...
I bought them for locking wheel nut removal...did'nt work out.
Bought a two piece set from Laser - much more suited to that job as they have a finer thread.

Normal sizes are great though !

i have a snap on set and they are invaluable for removeing locking wheel nuts, had many a car come for repair where the wheel needs to come off and the owner has`nt got the locking nut key

Is it still square? I know its an obvious question but can't you use a spanner on it?

If it's 'not-square' it's probably pretty close to 'not-hex' and should work fine with the bolt-grips.

Bi Hex sockets sometimes work if you have a size you can GENTLY tap on
