Iron worker troubles

I have a fairly old ficep iron worker and very rarely the punch side gets stuck in “drive” and punches every time the flywheel turns normally a couple taps on the pedal stoped it but today it’s well and truly got its self upset! Rather unnerving really
Any one got any ideas how to set it back or is it a case of find a users manual and start taking it to bits kinda job

It’s got about as many guards as it is feasible to have just the punch end that I suppose could be guarded but that just heightens you sense of awareness and yes DEFINITELY my own workshop

Ahh, thanks for that info. Then, of course, you can do what you like. I'm not sure how different that would be to a power press, The ones we had at work, Had a key switch on for 'inch' and 'run' maybe it has gummed up somehow? I don't know so don't take it as gospel, but it does need looking at.

looks like an older flywheel set up , so the clutch must be stuck ,, power off and go for a look see. they are fairly basic , but dust and rust does get them eventually.

Clutch sticking is a good call. We had regular C&B inspections on them. (until the B@stArd who was sent down from Newton Aycliffe to destroy the press shop stopped the maintenance.)

Can you turn the flywheel by hand,maybe with a run up?
Sure I’ve done that on my old Cardiff,definitely done that on my guillotine a few times.

It’s all closed in so can’t be seen that will be this weekends job

I think this is about right, it seems to have 2 flywheels, one for each end. Going to investigate this weekend if I can

Every thing this side “seems” ok that pto looking spline is jammed solid but bugger me if I can work out how to get the punch ram out without having to SERIOUSLY dismantle the whole thing

is the pawl side of the drive sticking on the driven side of the drum ??

The big ones are massive! About 30 kg and 6-7 inch across

I think it’s the actuator that engages the dog to drive..or disengages is not working full but that’s getting into the realm of electrickery and I am well and truly buggerd on that front

yep , but it cant be that complicated , hard to tell without it in front of you , but that wear on the wheel looks sus ,,, wonder if the electrical isues are caused by over travel ,, again , only thinking out loud really.

I had a good look and their dose not seem to be any undue wear or mushrooming on contacting surfaces and the dog that catches the wheel is lovely and free.
If I could work out how to post a video on hear I think that would paint a much better picture
