is it possible to make/force an iPhone 5s switch on without a sim?

Upgraded my phone and want to give my old one to my son, however it just says no sim and won’t go any further

I think my old work one worked without a sim? If I can dig it out I'll see if it does - the battery life went bad so I had another one and i had the same idea of giving it to my daughter to play with but it turns out she just wants the one I have anyway

I have a iPhone 4 that still works without a SIM card. Shows no sim on the home screen but just swipe to unlock and most apps still work except the ones that need a phone number to work

I think they will work without a SIM but you need one in when you activate them after a factory reset. Why not just get a PAYG sim for it?

Don’t want to spend money but I can put my sim in to make it work

PAYG SIMS are a couple quid, but if you get it running with your SIM then you may find it works fine after that. I have a funny feeling they don't even need a working sim as I've heard them talk about dummy sims in the Apple store.

Both my kids have 5s, good phones and they are oldest Iphone that will work on the latest IOS. We put a glass screen cover and case on ours and they sime pretty tough.

This may sound silly but if it's just for him to play on then I think you would be better off selling it and buying him a tablet. In good condition with all the accessories they can make £100+ on ebay especially in the lead up to Xmas

I got a free PAYG sim from 3 to put in a phone to unlock it.

you can make it work by connecting it to your pc and using itunes, thereafter it will just work.

He has a tablet that’s about to die so will be replaced at Christmas

It’s damaged on the back, on it’s 3rd battery and I think the board is faulty as it charges up too fast then dies within half a day, to the point I felt I’d gone back to a landline it was plugged in so much....
