Inverter stick welder at £50 coming to LIDL 26th May

I bought a similar unit off amazon a few years back for £80. This seems a total bargain as a backup, throw in the back of a car, type job.

I love my LIDL inverter. Bought about 4 years ago, so a slightly different model.

We've a posh Italian, I think, thing at work, it's pretty awesome, but I prefer my Oxford oil bath transformer any day, or a three phase transformer welder.

For the duty cycle.

Difference is weight, one is easily portable, the other, oh no.

These things are ideal when a small job does not warrant setting the MIG up...Funny little things, burn through a couple of rods and the welds then on seem to get smoother for the next 10 rods.

I bought one years ago and it still works fine.
It doesn't get much work but it's a handy wee thing to throw in the car.
The earth and electrode holder are pants but easily switched for something better and you should throw out the mask and chipping hammer with the cardboard box.

I bought it to use as a power source for a hot wire cutter to cut 600mm thick polystyrene blocks down to size (for insulation) and it worked a treat.
It's welds far better than I ever expected.

Personal experience of that 3m duct tape from Lidl, it's really poor compared to t-rex or other brands.
Tears really badly, very thin and is not in any way water, or outside resistant. Its ok for packing boxes....but not as good as brown tape.

Might have a nose at the strimmer tho

My BiL was stunned by his Aldi version. Said it burned bigger rods than his big old, oil filled Oxford without popping the 13A fuse. A digital amps readout would gave been nice on that Lidl one.

That one states upto 2.5 rods, so a but small really. Add a extra few amps to run 3.2s would be a much better prospect.

Thanks, I'll not bother then.

I do want decent tape that tears easily with teeth and sticks properly first time; I'll be keeping it in the back of the car with the zip ties, tarpaulin - and ether.

I bought one of these 80A inverter welders for £50 about a year or so ago.
Bought really just to play with as I'd never stick welded.
Seems like a nice little welder (welds I've done with it are properly fugly (if functional) - but that's undoubtedly an issue with the operator, not the machine.
Really small & light - it really is super-portable. I've used it to repair a couple of farm gates & the like (where my fugly welds arent a concern).

Agree. Not the Lidl one but a comparable cheap Chinese version makes me look a far better stick welder than I actually am!
Used it at full pelt on a normal 13A plug at my neighbour’s (gate repair) and at a container (plug welding some holes) with zero issue.
