Inverter Mig Welders?

Just thinking about doing some mobile welding service, I've been looking at getting an invertor for my site stick work but what about those Invertor Mig welders that have come on the scene recently??

Sip do one, and its ideal to carry in the back of a van, 0.6 and 0.8 wire, solid or flux cored, ideal for car repairs etc..

Recently i've had a few people ask me for car welding, i don't think the 400amp 3 phase welder i have at work is small enough to do a decent job, and besides i'd sooner go to them, than them come to me.

Has anyone used something like this before, would they be ideal for mobile welding repairs??

I'm with you on this one Gerry. I do a lot of mobile work and at the moment lug around my 240v 180amp butters unit which must weigh around 50kg! I used to have to lift it into my van or improvise a ramp to pull it up until I got a trailer with a ramp/tail board but even then it's a challenge as it weighs so much. It's a belting welder but size/ convenience and practicality are screaming at me now. After searching through posts the other week someone suggested this, http://www.kemppi.com/inet/kemppi/kit.nsf/0/A051719B838DCB6CC22578730048CF85?opendocument a bit dearer than the SIP I would imagine but it can be powered from a genny which, with the type of mobile work I do would come in really handy as mains supplies aren't always available.

I use a Kemppi minarc mig out and obout quite a bit. I usually use it from a fixed supply and use lots of extension leads.
I think you can get away with 80-100m of extension lead.

Used Kempi Mig & TIG the TIG was a real smooooth welder with lots of functions & memory's

How do you rate the Kemppi Wyn? Is it the 170 or the 200? Although I love my Butters I would really like a lighter set up even if it means stocking up on 5kg reels

The one i have is the older 180.
It's a great bit of kit, i have used it mostly in the workshop but seem to be using it out and about a lot more lately.
I'm sure i have put more than 10, 5kg rolls through it with no problems.
I also had a bash with it on aluminium and the auto settings make it easy.

Ive just brought a 250 amp warrior mig inverter and cant fault it very powerfjl and portable will also run from a 5kva genny im told although havent tested that yet
