In the back of my new transit van theres something called a Inverter ,with a few 240 volt plug sockets coming off it ,anybody know much about these,how they work etc ?

It's a device for converting 12VDC (from your battery) to 230VAC for power tools etc. It will have a rating plate somewhere 1000W, 2000W etc to show you the maximum load. The higher the rating, the more current it will draw from the battery so you may have to run the engine to save a flat battery!.

Any idea what there worth and how to remove it safely ?
Really depends on the size - the Wattage rating. Shouldn't be hard to remove, although there are some pretty horrid wiring jobs in vans! Check and see if it's been run straight to the battery or it's ignition switched. Unwire everything from the battery, make sure the invertor's not on, connect them up one at a time until it's on again, you'll know what wire makes it safe, then just remove it.
Put some photos up on here and advertise it in the for sale section

Will take some pics tomorrow and post on here so you can see what the thing looks like ,but not so keen on removing myself maybe a job for a auto electrician as the van is alarmed etc ,will keep you all posted ,Ady

I fitted one to my old transit great bits of kit i would leave it in you never no when you

We have one at the stables to run a few lights so you can find the generator which then charges the battery back up!
