Hi, I’ve recently joined the forum after lurking on the sidelines for several years.
I’ve recently purchased a Paton ProTig 200ac/dc welder and have owned a Paton Standard Mig 160 for a couple of years. I haven’t used the ProTig yet other than plugging it in to check all the menus function. I’ve got to order some argon from SGS as they have a retailer close to where I live in Devon. The Hobbyweld supplier has recently changed and is now too far away. I’ve also noticed that the small SGS cylinders are filled to a higher pressure. I own a couple of classic cars and have some old garden furniture that needs renovating.
I last did tig welding at college in 1991 and have nightmare memories of spending lots of time regrinding tungstens! I must admit that the teaching resources now available on this forum and elsewhere on the internet make learning easier and probably more enjoyable. In those days it seemed much easier to use oxyacetylene for butt welding repair work on cars. I find it surprising on some of the car restoration tv shows how little oxyacetylene is used. I can’t recall ever seeing it used on Car SOS?
Does anyone know how the private message system works on the forum? I’ve been in touch with Alan at SGS Gases regarding the forum members discount and he’s asked me to private message him my details, but I can’t find an option to do that?
Thanks
Howard
