internet probs

we've been plagued by poor internet for the last five years....
It seems to be a privilage to have it here....
we dont play games, a bit of tv plus ebay n F Book but nothing heavy....
we've just changed from a local provider...the average on a good day was around 5mbps down load.....so buffering was bad.....and at almost 50 euro's per month.....
this was limited download ( the best available) over the month and towards the end of the month it slowed down even more.....!!!!!!!

Now Vodaphone made an offer u cant refuse, 20 euro's a month for unlimited use and a speed check showed 50mbps on download....
Now my question.....
we Use Nord VPM and when that is switched on for tv time, the download speed drops to around 5......
is this normal and if anyone uses this VPM would you pls check ur speed so I can compare....

I wanted to go with Starlink but I don't know of anyone to ask for their experience...
just to say Starlink non priority use is 29 euros per month, but that means at high usage times u get a slower download...if u pay the 49 euros for priority service it never slows down....
anyone with experience.... Thanks....

My father runs his TV with a vpn and always sees a substantial drop in download speeds...I can run a speed check on my phone connected to his WiFi and get 300mbps, his TV will get 70-80...turn the vpn off and it's up to 250+

You're adding an extra layer of "work" to be done in the connection, so it's inevitable that there will be some reduction in performance. If I understand these paid VPN connections correctly (I've only used them in terms of a secure connection to a customer network) you're connecting to their hardware, which then forwards the connection to the host you're streaming from, so any bottleneck in the VPN provider's network won't be improved upon by getting a better connection at your end.

Try different countries for the VPN. I found Andorra was good for watching YouTube without ads, and some other country was fastest for downloading from pirate bay. Do some experimenting. My VPN is Surfshark. .
