Anyone having problems with the "internet" being down woz.
Theyre in the settings control tab for tcp/ip under networking. Or /etc/resolv.conf if you use a proper os
I usually test against comcast's dns servers when I think theres a issue with resolving names to addresses, 4.2.2.6, 4.2.2.4 etc. Mostly because I can remember them off the top of my head, which is handy when you can just nip on the net and look it up
The internet itself is a huge multipathed beast, its very very unlikely that itll ever be broken for everyone at the same time. When it has a issue, the routers find new routes to places and recalculate all their routing automatically. Sometimes the route will be slower, but itll work. Make a note of whats in there already so you can revert back when the isp sorts it...
Whats much more likely is your isp is having either routing issues or dns problems in that its dns servers have gone mad and cant contact upstream to do resolution on certain domains (ending with .com broken, but .co.uk fine for example).
Your not FORCED to use their dns servers, you can use whatever you choose, but it might be a bit slower because say comcast's dns servers are in the usa and it takes a finite time for the query and answer to go to the states and back...
Sometimes a router (assuming yr on broadband) can need a re-start. Had one that was a b*gger for that, forever 'losing' parts of the interweb. Switch on/off, or yank the power out for a couple of secs if no power button. May need to reboot the PC as well.
