I'm not sure if this move is legal, but what are mods for if not scolding newbies for not knowing (/reading) the rules?
Seriously though, I'm not sure what's worse, a barrage of questions in one thread or a barrage of threads. If I've messed up, sorry in advance mods.
First off, is it normal for the electrode to get a thin dark buildup on it after welding? Not like chimney soot hanging off of it, just the tungsten being a bit darker than it was fresh out of the packet. I suspected my gas flow, I've gone over my lines while my brother was welding and I couldn't hear or feel anything, and the "welds" looked shiny and not full of holes (at least the ones that I held a good arc length for).
Secondly, is it any harm if the HF unit runs while you're setting the flow rate or purging the lines? I've gone over both the machine (Rohr HP-160L) and the manual (https://unionmart.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/inverter-tig-mma.pdf) and there doesn't seem to be a way to disable it, or if there is I'm far too stupid to notice it.
Part C: If one electrode is going 60mph into a freshly formed pool 10mm away, how long will it take the untrained monkey to blow through a 10 pack of 1.6mm 2% lanthanated?
And finally, I've been looking at those little no. 9 torches, they seem really handy. Is it as simple as screwing off my 17 and screwing in the 9 or do I need a new hose?
If you've survived this far, I commend you. If you can spare some pearls of wisdom, they'd be much appreciated.
