Has anybody got any experience of using these little gadgets available from Frost. They are little clamps used to clamp two pieces together ready for but welding. They leave a gap of about 1mm between the 2 edges. Im struggling to but weld the joint without blowing through. The gap seems too wide to me. Any ideas?

Mole grip type welding clamps with different shaped jaws are available from many suppliers. Machine Mart set is good value, I use 2 of the 9" welding clamps at the bottom for everything.

do a search on the forum, possibly in 'home made tools'. I'm sure someone posted up home made intergrips about 18 months ago.
For 'welding' or general workshop type stuff where the molegrips are likely to get spattered/hammered/abused I use the cheapo ones. Aldi sell that set above for around a fiver.

I made my own intergrips, as the postage to Australia was horrific, and I couldn't find any local suppliers. Took about 90 minutes from start to finish to knock up 6 of them. I have found them to be awesome to use, although mine do have just the 1mm gap to deal with. I only used them for holding smaller patches, I doubt they would have the grip for anything too heavy.
I had some of those unobtanium magnets rtcosics mentions, taken out of dead PCs, amazingly strong but sadly lost power once they got hot. Shame. A couple of largish ones had to be parted from the steel they were clinging too with a chisel and hammer.... amazing things.
