Inspection lamps

Over the past few years I have gone through 1-2 inspection lamps per year. I have never broken a flourescent tube, it always seems to be an intermittent connection.

I have tried the Ring lamps, the screwfix ones,machine mart ones - but have never spent more than £20

Can anyone recommend a more expensive one for me to try?

Oh yes, and I'd prefer it to be on a lead so I can pull it from underneath if necessary!

A friend of mine got me a Thorsman Lightstik led lamp at trade price of £28. It stands in it's charger when not in use and comes on automatically in a power cut. It runs for at least 4 hours as that is the longest I've had it off charge for. Here.

At old work they had the ring led recargable ones and even with snotty muppit students they only broke half in a year

I also have a LED lamp. Chinese cheapo with 96 LEDs.

We use the stand-up flourescents on site and in the shop - about 600 high, with two 110v sockets on them. They are useless at standing up, but seem to give a decent light. Tubes seem to last a long time even though they a regularly knocked about.

i have a 12v one that clips on to a car battery bought from an auto spare place about 6 yrs ago takes a 12v 21w double contact car bulb (undre £3 for a box of 10) only thing iv done is replace the crocodile clips as i stood on the old ones and bent them beyond use

I have the same thing. Just "upgraded" the bulb to an LED one.

Look on ebay for some big number of led lights .. be aware that the recharge ones do not last as long when the tem is 5 c or below . I sat up till 02.00 one day playing on the bay and got one of the bids for 32 P + P&P of £2.50 from Hong kong .. ended up five days later with the gods as described which B&Q were selling for £7.00

But if your like me and keep the recharge on charge it does not really matter ..

My seafishing led head light uses AAA batteries and I always have to carry a fresh spare set , two sets if it is going to be sub zero temps for the night .

When I was out photographing in the cold I used to keep spare batteries in a pocket close to body which kept them warm (and working!)

I have a bog standard £5 240v inspection lamp, fitted a CFL bulb, which has been going strong for a good few years even though it's been dropped numerous times

I also use an LED headlamp, you can get them cheap as chips now, but taking the batteries out to charge them is a little fiddly
