Malcom a good friend of mine has a manhole cover problem & has asked me if I can help him source a new or decent pressed steel round 500 mm dia .
It seems all replacement stuff is only 450 mm dia . I've not yet physically looked at it in situ , but 11 yrs ago I hammered a round rim back in place so the lid fitted once again after his , " Mr Expert Handyman " used a crow bar to lift the lid . I wire brushed the rim and cold galv painted it after giving it two well dried coats of phosphoric acid rust prevention
Do you guys know if such galv steel covers in that size are still available of is it going to have to be a new cover & hip ring in a bigger size?

Can anyone . CNC. precisely cut thick industrial plastic for a given price ( with tread plate pattern lightly routed in by me ) as a replacement as the original cover was not airtight ?
The cover needs to be easily removable ( I can sort out a lifting handle etc . ) as the guy has a chemical Porta Potty down in his mancupboard ( He's 84 yrs old with incontinence probs ) & he still wants to lift the lid to empty the potty.
To lose the toilet facility & possibly having to stop using his mancupboard would seriously affect Malcom as it's his reason for living and being as healthy as he is . He uses the shed and toilet facility most days , pottering around , making bird boxes , small windmills up to 1.5 mtrs high and all sorts of things out of wood ( with my help some days )
