Yes I did, when dad had his machine shop in West London they used to get the big biscuit cutter/roller once every three months to change the bearings at each end

That man is either way braver than me or has a huge mark up on the product. I would be sitting eyes glued watching with my hand hovering over the remote pendant, giving the price of the blank roller.

Definitely united biscuits in west London but don't know the address, brother and I were too young back then.

I spent many hours in that factory in the early 1970's keeping the computer going that controlled the dough mixers and ingredient blowing lines from the hoppers (bulk flour / sugar / fats etc)

I remember one time when the PM (Ted Heath) was due for a visit, and they managed to spray water into the input / output cabinets for the ginger nut line - I was there solid for three days sorting the mess, and the mixing hall filled up with barrows of ginger nut mix that had wrong proportions waiting to be 'adjusted' - got there in the end, AND he came round the computer suite

Used to do something similar for pet-food. 3D CAD when it came along, as well as the CAM programs, made it so much easier - could wrap the shape required, including letters, round the roller so much easier!

I watched it, and considered posting about it myself. They said they need replacing after only a year, I was shocked at that, how abrasive can biscuit mix be to knacker a mold?. Unless its the shafts on each end that wear out, but surely it would be cheaper to repair them in that case.

I want to see the factory that made the blank roller, if you didn't notice it was a bronze tube about 20mm thick pressed on to a (Presumably stainless) steel roller, uses less precious bronze that way but how do they machine the big tube?
