Inlet manifolds

Here's a big job I completed today for a customer. He is building a 60's style GP bike with a FZR 400 engine. He wanted some Inlet manifolds making to use Amal carburetors rather than the originals ( Mikuni or Keihin).
It wasn't easy because each one is slightly different and has to be offset for the Carb flanges to fit. Also there had to be a smooth transition from the round venturi of the carb to the oval Inlet ports of the head so it required a lot hand porting from solid bar stock.

What are the benefits of running Amal carbs on such an engine ? great work btw

No idea, its what the customer wants so I do as I'm asked.
He said he finds them easy to tune

Possibly so. He said he likes these carbs and they will look good on a 60's style race bike.

I like that thinking. Making the machine best fit his style & preference. Original is always nice, but unique, done tastefully, is better.

Regarded as a performance upgrade at the time. a tadge less top-end than the Amal GP, but a considerably fatter powerband and much better tractability.
Worth remembering that Mikuni were taught much by Amal, but not everything that Amal knew.....

Hopefully he puts the cable in the middle if he goes for the Trident style, mine used to wear bushes out just for fun!
