Inherited an Eland MIG 200 - what do the knobs do?!

Hello welding forum people!

Inherited off my dad's farm..I have used it briefly to patch up a couple of 2cvs with all the dials set to err, something, but now I'm about to unleash it on a '65 Porsche I'd better use a little more finesse!

Main question is about the dials - see pic. Looks like the middle one is wire feed, but the top ones - pulse welding for repetitive jobs? And 2 power controls at the bottom. Help! Or anyone have a manual I could scan?

Just splashed out on a bottle of argoshield and a regulator and would love an idea of what to set the flow at.

I'm welding 1mm steel I think (20 guage) mainly short tacks and longer runs. Expecting to do a fair bit of fine tuning the settings before I set to on the 356.

Top left looks like spot timer.
Top right looks like stitch timer.
(set both to 0 if not using them)

Center is wire speed.
Bottom two are voltage settings 1-6 is coarse, 1-3 is fine

Voltage (power) settings would then be;

Coarse - fine
1 - 1
1 - 2
1 - 3
2 - 1
....and so on up to
6-3

Shenion's right about it all, except your bottom voltage control has 4 settings!. Which means you have a total of 24 settings, which on a 200a machine is a very good degree of fine control. If you want to know exactly what you're playing with, get a voltmeter and test between the contact and earth, on the different settings. Then you can use the Miller Mig Calculator as a guide to correct settings.

The spot timer could be useful I guess, but the stitch timer is a gimmick. Ignore it and it'll go away.

Do you find the Eland a nice welder to use? The reason I ask is that I may have a chance of buying a second hand one. You say you have used it to weld a couple of
2CVs and are about to embark on welding a Porsche so presumably it is O.K on thin stuff like car bodywork. Also, what is the minimum ampage setting?

Sorry to take so long to reply - I have only just got around to using it on the car the last couple of days.

Seems to go well enough - I am using nearly the minimum volts (1-2) and about 8 things of wire speed (around a third of the way around the dial) and it isnt blowing holes in all but the flimsiest edges.

It does feel a little big for the job..the machine otherwise seems like a quality item. It is really old and has rarely been used, but with new tip and wire it is going nicely.

I dont know how to work out the minimum ampage I'm afraid..someone might help wit this?
