my father is buying me a knife for my birthday and although he won't tell me where he has seen it, he asked if the specs were good.
It says it's made from a 4mm thick blank of 7cr 17mov which I take to be a chrome moly vanadium blend, so stainless, and has HRC of 58 which means little to me apart from it's a class c Rockwell test.
The ad reckons its shaving quality sharp and holds it edge immaculately
Does this sounds like a material that would do well being used as a knife?
It's not a cheap knife from what he has said so I don't want him to spend a lot on a knife that won't hold an edge.
To be used for skinning and light butchery on small game, maybe chopping up kindling every now and then and basic bush craft needs ( I have an axe for most uses though)
