the bought ones use solid copper wire ,, theres a flexible one in the box too but it needs the insulation .

I bought a similar or even identical one,it stated 36v required,haven’t yet got around to trying it,and not sure if I’m capable of setting it up.

its about 4mm maybe a wee bit more , once its heated a few times it anneals and bends very easily
next time at that workshop I will measure it to be more exact

there are a couple like that too ,,, ill check the make . To be honest it didnt quite heat things hot enough for my liking ,,, but still its handy .

I guess the more copper the more it will heat

yep , i found that adding another loop to the coil in the set up helped ,,,

my mate has the hand held snapon one,

this guy has masses of snap on ,,, but the hand held is in a black case ,,, it probably came off the van though ,, its got yellow writing and graphix ,,, ill take more notes ,, I used it to bend some 1 inch bar to make a push bar for moving rr sports , theres no handy way of pushing them about , so I came up with something . It did the job but it was at the limits for the wee thing , had to wait for it to cycle a couple of times to get enough heat into the bar to bend it nicely. but thats not really what they are for ,,,

I remember seeing the chap at the local garage using one, whether it was battery or mains I don't know as I was at the opposite end of the ramp.

Could be he was testing one to see if it was worth a punt [he's a great Snap-On fan], as I've never seen him with it since.

To get any useful power out of it the copper coil needs to be watercooled but nothing fancy, just a trickle of flow would be adequate.

For maximum power you want 50V and 50A input, and the only sensible priced source are telecoms power supplies, like the one I got for about £90, yes it cost more than the induction.

The sealey one is actually good. It’s the better one of the two they do.

Blue spanner will win every time but it’s apples and oranges…..

These things can heat stuff up enough without setting fire to interiors, wrecking durabrite rims, don’t need hot works permit etc etc.

Its not but can be, depends if you want the maximum power out of it ( I do, I want to anneal, harden/melt stuff with it). The more expensive chinese listings have a pump and tubing included.

Just connect 3-4 12v batteries in series and connect a charger to them to charge them up when they get a bit low. Instantaneous power as soon as you switch it on.
