In praise of a foot pedal.

Being new to TIG welding, have been experimenting with my method and been following the advice from you guys here!
I have recently fixed my foot pedal, which I knew was not working when I bought it. The controllability of my welding has much improved now; also backing off the amps whilst in motion is very handy!
I can pre-set the max and min amps to be used, power to the torch is switched off when the pedal is the top.
I imagine you all have one on your TIGs and I’m telling you something you already know! But it certainly made things a little easier for me and I would highly recommend putting one on your Christmas list if you ever consider adding to your armoury.

That looks like an excellent foot pedal. Must make life much easier when you can set the min and max. I find mine very tricky to control - though a lot of that must be me not being very good at TIG.

Hows the TIG getting on - any photos yet? And what's that to the right of the food pedal in the photo? I can see a crankshaft, but everything else looks very mysterious.

I rarely use them, but i dont do that much Tig work lately.

Its takes some getting used to using it i found. But once you got the hang of it certainly makes life easier.

Its still quite possible to produce very high quality welds without one, so not the be all and end all imo.

Nice ! Takes me back 30 odd years when i was a sheet metal worker apprentice, mostly gas and arc welding then but i also trained on tig with similar foot pedal to the one you show, loved tig welding ( stainless and ally )
like gas but better ! cant see the pedal working when yer laying under a car tho - lol

its a cab off a model steam locomotive, the crank is off another engine im doing bits for.. i like to build things in my shed
will be trying out my welding tomorrow evening and will post some photos on sat/sun, have my mask now and ground up lots of tips nice and sharp at work, my face has healed up from the previous attemp

I used to have a Cebora TIG with the same foot pedal - which was great for bench work. But on bigger items around the bench or on site, a pedal is not very convenient, so I have learnt to do without and become a better welder for it. W/A
