In a Rage after 3

I bought both mitre saw and the 185 circular saw last year and did post this on Echidna`s thread. Id seen the vid and decided to buy both. like i said before the little 185 saw has been verry good no complaints, but the mitre saw has been frankly rubbish with the blades not lasting at all. I phoned up evos technical dept up to have a moan and was told in no uncertain terms that the little 185 was designed to be used on steel but the rage3 was not but was designed to be a multi purpose saw but will cut steel. when i said thats why i bought it just to cut steel, unistrut angle, box etc they said i should have gone for the pro one! which is a lot of help now. anyway i have decided to buy the 255 steel blade(blue) next to see if its any better. their advert says that rage3 should get through 250 cuts in 50x2.5mm box. of the three blades i have purchased none have come anything near this I doubt if ive even got a hundred cuts out of it.
So chaps if your thinking of getting a rage3 just for hobby, diy metal cutting only remember its a multi purpose saw and not a dedicated metal saw as i have now found out.

So what are you saying, you were using the universal blade for metal cutting all the time??

Yes hitch just cutting metal, but wasent getting anywhere near the 250 cuts they state, occational use by the way not all day every day as you probably would.

A lot depends on how steady you use it, with the mitre saw types its tempting to pull it through as fast as you can. Steady even pressure is best i found, especially when going through verticle walls of box sections etc.

I imagine the rake on the universal blade is different to the dedicaed steel blade.

Ive tried pulling it to me and cutting into the work slowly even tried using as a chop saw straight down i thought it was my fault at first but we wil see how much better the steel blade will be. what im peeved with is that the 185 can do 50m of 6mm mild steel with one blade but the larger more expensive mitre saw can not get anywhere near. I spose i was taken in with the vid of the bloke on site going through scaffold pipes and angle but i bet he couldent have done much more of those cuts
