I've has a little windfall and decised to replace the old BOC 130. She's served me well but has her quirks and the time has come to stand her aside.
That decision being made, Ive now to decide on a replacement. So I thought Portamig, but i've seen some inverter migs and this is where the dilema starts. I've spoke to my brother, who works at a fabricators and suggested that an inverter would be the way to go. So the latest contenders are the R-tech iMIG 180 @ £450, the R-tech Pro-MIG250-I @ £650, the IFL i-TECH 170 @ £570 or the SWP 9000 Digi – Mig 200D @ £660
All do Mig and MMA and DC tig to some degree. I'm not that worried about the Tig function at the moment as it will require additional gas and a torch. To be honest I would be prepared to wait and invest in an AC/DC TIG machine at a later date. I've got an old Clarke 100EN for gasless, so thats not a consideration.
They all look to be good machines. I probably won't use the extra power of the R-tech 250 and the SWP is at the top of the spending range, so it looks like a run in between the R-tech 180 and the IFL. I'm probably leaning towards the R-tech, but thats the cheapest and leaves more cash for a replacement compressor, which is also on the shopping list. (Its a Wolf 3HP £250 if its not the R-tech 180 or a FIAC £550 if it is)
I'll need to have a wee think, so your comments are welcome.
