i have a thing for old kit and i have just got back with my latest toy.
its only 140 amps and i put the sip 150 on top for scale makes me wonder how far technology will go in terms of shrinking it.
i couldnt beleive the size and weight of the boc for what it is.
it will be used occasionaly in a work shop up the yard for light use and will be pretty much stationary.
anyone used this machine what did you think of it and how old would it be thanks.

I like the old heavy machines. Not used a MIG like that butI've had a few of the big British built stick sets. I have a 5 meter set of leads that are so heavy you have to lift them one at a time. They came with a welding set that need a hoist to move, I kept them for my welder so I don't have to drag it out all the time

That looks as if it was the time when Murex was owned by BOC. When weldequip gets back from his hols. he should be able to date that. Nice kit though, it will probably outlast all of us. Built with no inverter stuff to fail and easy to diagnose. Basically what I call agricultural engineering.

There was one like that in the workshop I rented although it may have been a lincoln and was even bigger, it also had a seperate wire feeder for mig, probably worked great but it wasn't exactly portable.

thanks lads cant say ive used anything this old myself.
theres something puzzleing me at the rear of the welder there looks like two buttons there pretty much flush with the metal next to the buttons it reads cb1 and cb? and on the buttons it reads 15 on one and i think 10 on the other....
what would they be used for thanks

It`s very much like an older Esab machine that I was going to buy a few months back. You can`t go wrong with that . It will have a good duty cycle and a massive copper tranny.

cb = circuit breaker maybe? Could be a couple of thermal cutouts.

I think they started to make this range in the 70's for the lower end market - small workshops and garages using 0.6 to 1.0 mm wires.

They were good basic machines easy to use and reasonable to work on if you had a problem.

which I've used to weld repair my car. I find this machine very forgiving and a delight to use, apart from lugging its bulk around (it's very bulky and heavy!)

I think 1 cb was in the primary circuit and other in the wire feed, it was a very good machine, by todays standards it would be a 200A. Still worth hanging on to and very repairable should any faults develop.

Whilst I remember a few things I can't remember the voltage output of this m/c (put it down to old age....), on the rear of the m/c is the spec' plate, what is the secondary voltage specified? (the upper value will give a good indication as to what thickness you can weld).
