Improvised fixed steady

When i got the boxford it didnt have a fixed steady but i kept the one off my ml7 when i sold the lathe so i made a plate to use the ml7 on on the boxford.

Tried it out and it work fine . Bit limited on size but will do for me.

Nice project. I have a Boxford CUD so may ask a loan sometime as don’t have a steady either.

I was going to make one for my boxford ad i hadn't seen one available lateley and if I did they wer the wrong side of £100

But I then saw one on Ebay for £80, which needs a clamp, so I got that and will make the clamp.

A fixed steady is one of the few accessories missing on my ML7. Due to the small spindle bore it's an essential bit of kit but they fetch crazy prices on ebay! I often thought about making one using small roller bearings but it would be easier to adapt one if I can get a suitable one at a sensible price!

Sensible enough money. Rather than adapting. Improve this one.
Think I paid 45 sh for one very similar to convert

I made this one for my 280 as I had some bits of thick steel that I saved from the skip years ago.

Easier to convert something else you find with a lesser centre height
