Impressed concrete vs Resin bonded for driveway

Any pros and cons to make one a clear leader? About £80/sq m for concrete, not priced resin bonded yet. Depending on final decision could be up to 100 sq m.

visualising a square metre 80 notes does seem rather steep and in Bulk is seems crazy. I dont suppose its any cheaper but have you priced tarmac? I have heard lots of bad reports about resin and its not that widespread as it gets more popular I expect it to get more of a bad name. (I might be wrong)

We’re waiting on the contractor to start ours but we went with block paving. About 120/sq m in the end (80 sq m total). The contractor doesn’t offer resin as his opinion is it has not been round long enough for him to guarantee it long term - but from what I understand it is a bit more than block paving. Your cost for concrete above is in line with his quote. I do like the resin but the only experience I have is a couple in the street that have been done over the past few years - both of them seem to have lost colour (it has dulled from a bright orange to a pale orange I guess) but I don’t know if a pressure wash or similar would bring that back. They certainly haven’t cracked and they’re both quite big areas.

resin requires a properly prepared base.... too many just apply over existing and scarper, its either a proper drive with a resin topcoat or an existing drive in good condition that needs "freshening up"

PPC can look great and as long as the profile is not too silly and enough colour is added is no different to concrete

blocks are great and always look good but require a lot of maintenance to stay that way.

Decided on impressed concrete and the quote came in just under £7k. Seems reasonable, dig out, 4in of hardcore, 4in fibre mesh concrete. Only problem is cannot start before the end of January at the earliest.

Busy probably means they are good at what they do, might be worth waiting for.

surely resin is plastic, that doesnt do well in sun light unless loads of uv stabilisers are added which are spendy , so what do you think they will leave out the mix to make a healthy profit and it will be a good few years before the customer knows

our village had some resin footpaths done around park area a couple of months ago, already cracking and some areas seem slippy underfoot when its been raining

I were told that you can't jack up a vehicle/use axle stands on a resin driveway,.....that rules it out for me. Only time will tell if it's actually better than brick block or concrete, somehow I doubt it will be.

my neighbour had the glass fibre concrete....£22000...its cracked in places....the dye isnt very consistent and its cracked in places....then the lacquer they put on top is slippy and it peels off......Ive got resin between slabs and the moss grows through it....

better go old school tryed tested than new and turns out after 15 years it rubish

After speaking to a couple of people who have impressed concrete I will add the following. One said despite it being a big company the actual installers were self employed as a franchise. They didn't properly prepare the base and it had sunk over time where the vehicle wheels had run. Owner was in legal battle to sort out as the self employed person had disappeared and the big company who gave them the franchise was denying liability. Second regretted having a deep impressed pattern as it collected dirt and looked a mess unless washed down regularly.

^^^ how can that be they bought off the company who put it in has no relevance its the company problem to sort not hard luck the company gone bust ?
