Importing from china?

Has anyone imported anything from China? I am looking at buying some trikes and bikes but have no idea how to go about it. Ive looked on the web but i am really dubious and could do with some guidence before taking the plunge.

A lot of china will only deal with you on container cash up front basis. Be away that you will have to check what CE declarations are needed for the product you plan to import especially if you selling on. There is bound to be company that can do the importing for you for a fee

You don't mention quantities, but I think the Department for Trade & Industry have a section which will help with guidance - or at least they used to, before all the swingeing cuts......

Best to get an agent in china who will oversea the purchase, You can used them to check up on the factory, Chase up deliveries, From someone i knew from start to finish it took them over 3 months to get their container to Flexistowe.

Its a long time and you still need to pay once its here for storage, delivery Duty etc..

Give this site a look, they do mixed containers so you could just buy some space on a container to get your trikes over, as opposed to having a full container, They deal with everything for you and deliver to flixstowe. I think they charge 7% of the full order value, you pay for the container space which they charge by the Cubic metre on mixed container.

One customer I know imports single speed road bikes from china but I can't really ask him as I would become his competition.

Gerry, thanks for the link I will delve into their site once I've out the little'un to bed.

Regarding numbers I only want maybe a few of each model, say 6 bikes in total so buying space in a container is the way to go. If things pick up from there then I wouldn't mind shelling out for a full container as I have space to store them all

That company charge £65 per square metre, which is a cheaper way to go, They seem to do everything for you, might be worth giving that guy a tinkle in china when you get a spare few minutes

I imported a laser cutter recently and was quoted $50 for it to be sent by ship. It was close to a cubic metre. I needed it fast so opted for airfreight though.

I contacted this guy about importing a pallet of engines; his blog is very interesting and he responded quickly and helpfully to my stupid questions(and he wasn't miffed when I didn't go through with it from lack of funds). As I didn't actually trade with him I can't vouch for his honesty but he seems genuine enough.
