No surprise there - that's a standard camera mount thread. I made a tripod mount for a engineer's prism just recently which had the same thread.

Lots of things have UNC fasteners if they are marketed to the USA.
The Canadian Kobelt boat controls I often fit are UNC, same with the HyDrive steering from Australia. USA is a big market for them so... Even Honda and Yamaha engines have an imperial thread on the tiller arm, 3/8 UNF if I recall. I suspect that however is more to do with it being a standard and backwards compatibility.

I think it may actually be 5/16 UNF as 3/8 seems too big from me just thinking back to last week

Now that one should be Whitworth thread form, the larger pro cameras, Hasselblad and the like are 3/8th Whitworth. Not that the thread form will make a lot of difference in that application.

If you buy furniture from Costco over here, it will have UNC fasteners in it.

The Ford Essex motor in my hot rod has both metric and English threads on.
