Impact Wrench

Having recently seen my neighbours Snap On cordless Impact Wrench in action I am thinking of getting something similar myself.

I am looking at the Clarke CIR450, it will only be for occasional use. Does anyone have any experiance or opinions of these?

looks ok . pity you can not adjust the torque, not everything tightens to 450Nm

It does say Max Torque = 450Nm, that implies it's adjustable, although it's not easy to see how.

we have a clarke cordless at work works fine for the stubborn stuff out in the field or 1000ft up in the air but its not as good as a proper air one

I dont think they are designed for refined toque tightening We use a snapon one. Great for winding up M20 bolts by the dozen.
You can hear and feel when a bolt is begining to tighten. Just lay off the trigger. I tend to check the tightness, or for smaller ones wind them up a few 'impacts' and feel how tight it is with a spanner/socket.



Cheap cordless tools, the batteries usually let them down. Although on the price, thats not a cheap tool, but it looks cheap, and nicad batteries too. Expect you may need to recharge it before use if you leave it for a couple of weeks.

Have you got any other cordless tools, I think most of the bigger names do a version with interchangeable batteries. Theres small models available, which are great but they tend to go to about 250-300nm.
Dewalt, Hitachi, Bosch and Ryobi all do them.

If it was me id go for this one http://www.makitauk.com/products/front/?id=2202&model=BTW450RFE I got a few 18v lithium makita tools , batteries last the best compared to others ive worked with and charge in no lenght , batterys arent cheap but if you have them there so many other makita 18 v lithium tools out there that take the same

I bought this makita one for doing up M16 bolts on crash barriers.
Its a cracking bit of kit, lots of grunt and batteries last forever.

I bought the next model down from the the 200Nm job and its ok for getting wheels off and undoing the odd bolts. I've not used mine much and the plastic casing around the metal gear box housing is a bit thin and coming apart (I've only used it half a dozen times, and never abused it). The batterys last well and its reasonably powerful, but is still beaten by a 1/2" driver 2ft breaker bar.

I looked at this model and it seems slightly less cheap than the one I bought, but I think I'd be spending a bit more money and possibly looking at the tasty Makita or Dewalt offerings. The SnapOn ones are nice, but tend to be pricey and I've heard the batterys dont last so long.

Just a thought - does anyone know of a corded impact wrench? I'll only ever be using one inside a garage with power sockets, so it seems pointless paying extra for a battery-powered one. Plus I'd have thought a mains one would have extra heft... ?

For a corded impact wrench I use this Clarke CEW1000 impact wrench. Costs £66, has 450Nm (330 lb/ft) of torque and hasn't let me down so far. Obviously an air powered gun is better (not to mention lighter), but the Clarke one has come in handy when going round to friends house to help.

I already have an air powered one and and a corded one, but been thinking of getting a cordless impact wrench.

Been looking at the Sealey CP3004. What are peoples thoughts on it? Rated for an allegged 400 lb/ft torque. I know some don't like Sealey, but I personally have not had an issue with their tools.

if i ever needed one i would give the 12V clarke a look at (the one that clips onto car battery)

dont bother with the clarke 12v impact gun. its slow and it cant undo many things. oh and it will break after a while.
