With a lower attachment to cover mouth nose etc and been very happy with them
But,i'm wearing different specs now a more broader rim type,yes those above fit over,but a bloody pita when taking them off,specs come with them,if you know what i mean
So,might go down the full face shield route,honeywell perhaps???????????? or others?????
They will have to be of high impact of course,the normal sparks,grit and other carp that fly's towards the face etc

Don't forget that proper safety glasses will stop a broken drill bit or other
shrapnel.
a face shield might not meet the same spec.

You're looking for EN166, with the key markings being:

• S: Minimal impact resistance - Impact with a small object travelling at 12 meters per second
• F: Low energy impact - Impact with a small object travelling at 45 meters per second
• B: Medium energy impact - Impact with a small object travelling at 120 meters per second
• A: High energy impact - Impact with a small object travelling at 190 meters per second
• T: Impact test at extreme temperatures - -5°C/ +55°C (optional)

(glasses alone can't be A or B, only face shields / visors)

As an example, my most recent visor (Portweld PW96CR) is classed as EN 166:2001 with marking “1 BT 3 9”:

• 1 — Optical class (best)
• B — Medium energy impact (120 m/s)
• T — Optional temperature conditioning
• 3, 9 — Other optional tests (e.g., molten metal splashes, plus other properties)

I don't understand how anyone who needs to wear glasses on a daily basis can bear to mess around with over specs or similar, it would do my head in.

My advice would be to just buy prescription safety glasses and have done with it!

Both conventional and wraparound frames are available, depending on your preferences.

I get mine online from safetyspecs who are based in Warrington, which works out very affordable.

Your normal optician should be able to arrange them for you instead if you'd prefer.

If you want to use them more like goggles, then a hybrid type with a seal might be best, and full on goggle inserts are available.

I've been a "4 eyed speccy git" since the age of 6 so have always worn prescription safety glasses at work, I still wear them for jobs at home, sometimes supplemented with a full face visor if I'm grinding etc.

I discovered I needed* to wear glasses at the tender age of 33!

Given I can find myself having to wear safety glasses up to 16 hours a day if I'm out and about with work, getting prescription safety glasses and prescription safety sunglasses (spend enough time in the desert and you suddenly realise that's a thing you want) was a no-brainer...

*I only "need-need" them for driving at night, but they improve my comfort levels for a lot more tasks, even if my sight is good enough to go without.

Do you do much underbody vehical work,you know cutting rotton sills,chassies,old underseal etc,those that do will know what i mean,ask me how many times in the past i've dug out bits of wire from my face after using wire wheels

Many industrial places banned wire wheels for a very good reason…..bits of wire fly out. Common sense would suggest putting ones face close to a high speed spinning wire wheel might be considered a bit dim!

Fair bit yeah...



I do wear a face-shield when doing that sort of stuff, but one should always wear safety glasses underneath the face shield (I had this lesson taught to me by experience early in my career).

I like the Honeywell Bionic face shields personally, but they're no substitute for safety glasses.
