im looking to buy a digger around 3 ton ,have used the usual jap ones in the past,no complaints,however ,there’s often some ihi ones ,never seen one in the flesh ,let alone operate one ,they look quality,are they expensive to repair,like Volvo & cat,are they tricky to repair?

Appears they use yanmar diesels, pretty decent engines to be honest, see lots in boats and that’s always a good sign. Just have a good look round any machine your thinking of buying, tracks are never cheap no matter what the machine. Pin wear is a killer too, although with your gear it needent be a no no if the price reflects it

Just messaged someone I know who knows these things, seems the general thoughts are they’re a solid little machine, typical jap quality but not a particularly big player in the small and medium machine market so don’t tend to have the cult following or resale values of jcb et al. Spares availability can be a bit sparse in the uk but seemingly are reliable enough for this not to be a major issue
