Got myself a trailer to do......well i dont know yet lol

Its an OLD Ifor williams 3.5ton jobby, a few new bits need adding but the rest is pritty good, the first job i have for it is to get a 19 foot boat home, so the plan is to extend the bed to 16 foot as its only 11 foot 8 inch now. i was going to make it adjustable but its not needed, 16 foot is plenty and then i can get cars on it aswell.

The main rail box section is old style or i cant get the same size box but going to see what i can find over the next week or so.

just make sure you have a spare wheel for it

those tyres cost a fortune from memory last one i bought was over ten years ago was well into three figures then and they do blow out

How are you going to extend the bed don't just put four foot on the back end
need to be done on both ends or you will make it a pig to tow

Put it all on the back end but also move the axles back to re balance it.

erm do you have some where else to keep it as i don't think it will fit in your front garden once finished

Morning guys, i have a my `pound` as we call it, which is to the side where it can go, but things have changed over night, i will be extending it still to 16 foot bed but just for the job i need it to do next month, then it will be shortend to 14 foot so then i can keep it on the drive, as a boat will be in the pound.
From deck center it is 7 foot front and 5 foot rear, i am either going to extend the front a further foot and rear 3 foot or 4 foot all on the rear then when i come to cut it back the later will be even deck center at 7 foot.

If that all makes sence lol.


I have 3 spare wheels for it but he tyres are cracked, i have priced up new ones for the new style Ifor tyres and not to bad at around £80.

Going to get cracking this weekend as i have another job lined up aswell now, why folk want everything done NOW is beyond me.....no ruuusshhhhh

you don't want the axles in the centre keep the axle to A frame the same
trailers always tow better with with axle behind the centre line
as you can see it was make like it for a reason
other point is what are you towing it with as it's a known 3.5 ton trailer
from the vosa point loaded or unloaded is still the same leaves you in landy
territory

I will be towing with a shogun, max 2.8 ton, i looked into it, it only matters if you are for commercial purpose those rules, i think lol

I just need to get the train weights and load weights in order.

I have a memo from VOSA starting that using plate weight for prosecuting for being over loaded is wrong and must stop and the true weight of the trailer is to be measured and checked. It was posted on the arb forum and was wrote by head of pro cushions for VOSA. I have been in touch with VOSA and they have circuited that it is true and accurate.

So if your trailer says its 3.5T gross and vehicle says 2.8T train your only in the brown stuff if when pulled the trailer weighs over 2.8T

if you are using for commercial purpose a tachograph is required as well

Even if its not commercial use but the vehicle (works van) you still need a tacho fitted or something detailing how you have exemption and record it. VOSA are getting hot on this again. Have recent seen lots of caravans being towed by sign wrote vans pulled over

VOSA are becoming a PITA nowadays they are needing to to get the fines up
to justify there being

I have noticed the stop site at rock cliff on the M74 seams to always be on the go these days. Must be low on numbers

Well i am ok so not boved as i am just private...for now, but my boss at work didnt believe me when i said to him that when he had a tow bar fitted to his new van he needs a tacho fitted as it is a commercail vehicle, even if he doesnt tow anyhting. he checked up and removed it that day.

It's a big problem with arb lads running old landys as there is not an approved tacho

Bit more done to it, front end has been extended, just need to plate the top joints.





This weekend i will have the back end done i hope, weather permitting. But i have decided to beaver it, maybe a fold up one aswell, or at a ;later date to make storing easier.
