Did a cylinder mower blade on a lathe w. grinder once, turning by hand...turned out great. I used to dress the bottom blade with a file, not much to it, well there could be, I was 15 at the time.
Accuracy across multiple cutting units was the key for us, I used to cut the greens with the triplex mower set at 2.4mm grass length. Get just one setting wrong and you were left with a discernible mark/variation.
Great satisfaction when you get it right and it looks/putts like on a billiard table.![]()
The bed knife would make sense actually. I’ve never thought about how cylinder mowers cut. I did think about selling but I’d only donate all of the money to charity. It’s only fair seeing as I paid nothing for it. I’d be up for a trade maybe though.
Badically think of them as scissors on steroids. They actually cut the grass between the two blades hence why how well they are matched together is of utmost importance.I’ve never thought about how cylinder mowers cut
Oh that would be handy, I have just offered first dibs to a member to buy it. I’d always be looking for bits if I can afford them in this current climate.I might have a drive plate and a travelling steady for a Colchester like yours. Will have to check if you need them.
Wondering if that grinder could be used for truing up sheet metal folder blades or similar?
