Am I seeing things or is outside tapered?
strange reply? , most are parallel on the outside even when removed its unusual to see one that goes tapered out side thats all ,as most are on a steel rim that holds the shape , I think we all know how seals fit and work ,obviously there is good reason why its outside is tapered ,well hopefully anyways , either way hope @KimB gets one found.No. Yes. Seals are dimensioned and made so that when installed in the groove in which they reside, they do the job they are supposed to do. When free of that groove, it is entirely possible their natural elasticity may cause them to assume a different shape.

A u seal or u cup is a standard hydraulic cylinder seal fitted in single acting rams. Looks like a cup (pressure) seal not a wiper/oil seal.

it may be it can got to a 33mm shaft as a max?Also as a point of reference the 28mm is the ID but I’m not sure what the 33 is meant to mean next to it? Maybe that’s what it’ll stretch to?

When I first saw your posting I thought:Thanks for all the advice guys. I’ve asked someone and see tomorrow if I get any response or luck. I’d say you’re right the it’s a U seal.
